Dear Colleagues,
It’s our great pleasure to invite you to attend the International Geriatric Hematology Oncology Symposium, which will be held in Izmir-Turkey on 25 May 2022. This geriatric hematology oncology symposium will be held together with Dokuz Eylül University, Dokuz Eylül University Oncology Institute, Geriatric Hematology Association and Geriatric Oncology Association. Although Geriatric Hematology Oncology is a fairly new discipline, it is becoming an increasing focus of attention on social and scientific platforms.
As in other countries in the world, the proportion of elderly people is gradually increasing in Turkey. As a matter of fact, while the population over the age of 65 was 7.68% in 2013 in Turkey, this rate is expected to rise to 15.7% in the 2050s. Considering that even in the current situation, approximately 60% of cases diagnosed with cancer and 70% of cancer-related deaths occur in cases aged 65 years and over; It is important that both health policy planners and health professionals be prepared for this upcoming "Silver Tsunami " wave.
We will scrutinize the management of elderly cancer diseases in all aspects, together with hematologists, oncologists, geriatricians, gerontologists, and opinion leaders who are interested in geriatric hematology oncology in the world and in Turkey.
We cordially invite you to this hybrid symposium, which we wish to pass as a scientific brainstorming. We look forward to your valuable contribution and participation to our meeting, which we believe will be scientifically stimulating and enriching.
